There are reviews over on Amazon that you are welcome to read. Here are a few reviews that were given to James from people who bought their books directly from him, or locally from his vendor.
James Douglas is the embodiment of a true storyteller. He spins his tales with descriptive prose that draws you into the story and keeps you glued to the page. His latest works in the Mountain Men series tell an exciting adventure story set in the pre-gold rush days of the early 1800’s. A stickler for details, James’ portrayal of the life and times of those who tasked themselves with conquering the wild western frontier is historically accurate and rich with descriptions of the untamed region of the Continental Divide. These were the days of especially bold men, skilled in hunting, trapping and survival techniques, who carried the knowledge of the secrets of the forests and the plains. They sought out a brave new world, one that was harsh and unforgiving in its current untamed state. Davie Meadows and his unusual band of mountain men, risk their lives repeatedly, standing for what is right, good and fair and earning themselves notoriety as the legendary ‘Death Wind’ to the indigenous tribes and non-indigenous peoples alike.
This series’ story-lines have it all; gripping action, dangerous adventures, brave comradery and even the threads of a love story woven into it. These books are money well spent for an immersive story sure to pique your curiosity and cause you to ride the highs and lows of this incredible historical tale of courage, wisdom and grit.

Books are extremely well written and accurate. Reader needs to read them with an open mind and know that each book is written about a specific time and all that goes with it.

I read Straight From the Heart in two sittings. It touched my heart deeply. We have a lot of the same childhood memories. Uncle Len meant a lot to me as well. For a man whose personal life was a mess he had a remarkable set of ethics. I always felt safe with him. I cried right along with you when you talked about Freddy. His music touched me deeply as well. He was the best person I ever knew and it gave me some comfort to think he was too good for this world.
I thought of you as a free spirit as a little boy and I’ve always admired free spirits. While I knew of your devastating illness and surgeries over so many years I didn’t realize the terrible aftermath.
I’m so happy you came out the other side with your faith intact and even stronger.

I enjoyed the book. Not very good at writing reviews, however, I would say that it is like reading a Louis L’Amour novel. It was a nice easy to read adventure!

I have read THE MOUNTAIN MEN: NO PLACE FOR COWARDS and enjoyed it! It seemed accurate to my limited knowledge of the history of the west. I am only half-way through THE MOUNTAIN MEN: THE DEATH WIND and it follows my vision of what the west was like in that era. Keep up the good work!
